Children have Heart attack…?

Today the adults and older people have a high risk of getting a heart attack. But unfortunately even young children are also having the heart attacks. Not to be every child, heart attack in children is happening very rarely, two pediatricians at Ohio have recently reported that occurrence of heart attacks in 9 young children.

I want to introduce a child, who was an example of such a situation Dan, who is a 13-year old boy. He is the son of Beth Meter, is a cardiac nurse and has seen quite a number of heart attacks during her service. One day her son complained of a crushing chest pain that has radiated into his left arm, she immediately recognized that her son was struggling with a heart attack. Check the medical history of Dan, when he was in seventh grade, pain in the chest first occurred, that was in March 2006. Dan’s teacher recognized the uneasiness occurring in Dan as the boy was looking pale and felt a stretched muscle. The pain gradually subsided. However, that day comes; Dan was taken to the hospital with a high forced pain. Concerns of heart attack were ignored at the hospital despite unusual blood tests and abnormal imaging results. He was later referred to Dr Lane, who then confirmed that Dan actually had a heart attack. He is currently being treated with heart medications.


In the view of Drs. John Lane and Giora Ben-Shachar of Ohio, who have treated Dan and eight other children, the cause of heart attacks in children has nothing to do with obesity, high fat diet, family history, high blood pressure and drug abuse. Important thing is, out of the nine children treated, eight were boys and one was a girl, which means young boys are at an increased risk of getting a heart attack compared to girls. Doctors feel that heart attack in children occurs due to a heart spasm that stops the supply of blood to cardiac muscle for a brief period.

What Is a Heart Attack..?

When blood flow to a section of heart muscle becomes blocked, then a heart attack occurs. If the required blood isn’t restored quickly, the section of heart muscle becomes damaged because the lack of oxygen and it begins to die.
Today heart attack is a leading killer of both men and women in the United States and England. But fortunately, today we have excellent treatments for heart attack that can save lives and prevent disabilities. Treatment is most effective when is started within 1 hour of beginning of symptoms. Heart attacks occur most often as a result of a condition called coronary artery disease (CAD). In CAD, a fatty material called plaque (plak) builds up over many years on the inside walls of the coronary arteries (the arteries that supply blood and oxygen to your heart). Then, an area of plaque can rupture, causing a blood clot to form on the surface of the plaque. If the clot becomes large enough, it can mostly or completely block the flow of oxygen-rich blood to the part of the heart muscle fed by the artery.

During a heart attack, if the blockage in the coronary artery isn’t treated quickly, the heart muscle will begin to die and be replaced by scar tissue. This heart damage may not be obvious, or it may cause severe or long-lasting symptoms and problems.
Problems linked to heart attack include heart failure and life-threatening arrhythmias (irregular heartbeats). Heart failure is a condition in which the heart can’t pump enough blood throughout the body. Ventricular fibrillation is a serious arrhythmia that can cause death if not treated quickly.


Common heart attack signs and symptoms

==> Chest discomfort or pain—uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness, or pain in the center of the chest that can be mild or strong. This discomfort or pain lasts more than a few minutes or goes away and comes back.
==> Upper body gets discomforted in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw, or stomach.
Shortness of breath may occur with or before chest discomfort.
==>Other signs include nausea (feeling sick to your stomach), vomiting, lightheadedness or fainting, or breaking out in a cold sweat.
Result
In every year more than 1.1 million people in USA becomes hear patient and almost half dies.
If we give help to those patients immediately, then many more people could recover from heart attacks. The people who dies because of heart attacks, about half of them die within an hour of the first symptoms and before they reach the hospital.

Heart Failure - The Basic Knowledge

Heart failure occurs when your heart can’t supply enough blood to the body pars or heart can’t occupy minimum level of blood. Many types of heart conditions and symptoms can lead to heart failure, including coronary artery disease, heart valve disease, high blood pressure, congenital heart disease, or cardiac viral infections. Patients they have heart failure may be suffer from shortness of breath, fatigue, and have difficulty exercising. Their life may significantly reduce.
Fortunately, our health care and hospitality increased with lot of new and new techniques and technologies, so we can reduce the symptoms of heart and increase the chance of survival. Types of Heart Failure

Normally patients show three types of heart failure:-dilated cardiomyopathy (cardiomyopathy is heart muscle disease), hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and diastolic heart failure.


Dilated cardiomyopathy is the most common type of heart failure. When Ventricle get weakened, flaccid and dilated, then the pumping action of the ventricle becomes weak, the amount of blood pumped with each heart beat drops, and the body's organs may not receive blood that they have. Dilated cardiomyopathy is the end result of many types of heart disease, especially coronary artery disease and valvular heart disease.


Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is usually because of genetic condition, and often runs in families. It is characterized by a thickening of the heart muscle, resulting in "stiff" ventricles. The stiffness impairs the filling of the heart with blood, and can lead to episodes of extreme shortness of breath in some patients, especially during exercise. The thickening of the heart muscle also can cause an obstruction in the left ventricle similar to that seen with aortic stenosis. And some patients suffering from hypertrophic cardiomyopathy have an increased risk of sudden death.

Diastolic heart failure is similar to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy but not because of the genetic condition, in that it is caused by a "stiffening" of the heart muscle, leading to impaired filling of the heart with blood. But unlike hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, diastolic heart failure is often not accompanied by thickening of the heart muscle. This type of heart failure mainly seen in older citizen especially in women, and also individuals, they have high blood pressure. It is characterized by relatively sudden episodes of severe shortness of breath, which is caused by too much fluid in the lungs (a condition called pulmonary edema).

Types of heart disease

Coronary heart disease: It is a disease of the artery caused by the accumulation of atheromatouss plaques within the walls of the arteries which supply the myocardium. This disease may lead to Angina pectoris (chest pain) and myocardial infarction (heart attack).

Cardiomyopathy: Cardiomyopathy is the deterioration of the function of the myocardium (the actual heart muscle).It may happen for any reason. People with this disease are often at risk of arrhythmia and/or sudden death.

Cardiovascular disease: This disease is any of a number of specific diseases that affect the heart itself or the blood vessel system, especially the veins and arteries coming to and going from the heart. Research on disease dimorphism suggests that women who suffer with cardiovascular disease usually suffer from forms that affect the blood vessels while men usually suffer from forms that affect the heart muscle itself. Normally it has some causes that are diabetes mellitus, hypertension, hyperhomocysteinemia and hypercholesterolemia.

Heart failure: Heart failure, also called congestive heart failure (or CHF), and congestive cardiac failure (CCF).This is a condition that can result from any structural or functional disorder in Heart mechanism that impairs the ability of the heart to fill with or pump a sufficient amount of blood throughout the body. This leads to the heart and body's failure.

Hypertensive heart disease: This heart disease caused by high blood pressure, especially localised high blood pressure. Conditions that can be caused by hypertensive heart disease, that are Left ventricular hypertrophy, Coronary heart disease, (Congestive) heart failure, Hypertensive cardiomyopathy, Cardiac arrhythmias

Inflammatory heart disease: This heart disease involves inflammation of the heart muscle or tissues.

Valvular heart disease: This heart disease causes the damages in one or more valves of the heart. The valves in the right side of the heart are the tricuspid valve and the pulmonic valve. The valves in the left side of the heart are the mitral valve and the aortic valve.
